About EUgrade
EUgrade answers one question about cloud, AI and software products: how European is this, really?
Not where a company was founded, but which jurisdiction it answers to, where your data is stored and processed, and who can be compelled to hand it over. For widely used products, we show the European alternative and what you give up by switching.
Who we are
EUgrade is a small, independent project from the Netherlands. We are not part of a vendor, a government or an industry group, and we do not sell products ourselves. We use what we recommend: the site runs on Dutch hosting, with no cookies, analytics or third-party scripts.
How we are funded
Today EUgrade is funded by its maker. There are no sponsors, no advertising and no affiliate links. If that changes, sponsored placements will be labelled "Sponsored" and kept visually separate from scores. Sponsorship never changes data, criteria, scores, rankings or verdicts.
How facts are researched
- Every fact links to its source and shows the date we last checked it.
- We prefer the vendor's own contracts and documentation, then company registers. Press and other third parties are used only when nothing else exists, and are marked.
- Each vendor source is labelled: from the contract, from vendor documentation, or a website statement only. A criterion that rests on website statements alone scores partial at most.
- If we cannot find a source, the fact says unknown, and unknown counts against the score. We never fill gaps from memory or guess from a .eu domain or an office address.
- We trace ownership to the ultimate parent company. European-founded is not the same as legally European.
How we check
We use AI tools to help find sources, re-check facts and draft comparisons. A person reviews every change before it is published, and every change is kept in version history: each product page lists what changed and when. Scores are computed by code from the sourced facts; nobody types them in. See how we score.
Facts are re-checked regularly. Anything older than 90 days is flagged on the page.
How we write
We compare; you decide. We state negative findings as dated, sourced facts, and we name what the European alternative lacks. An honest gap is more useful than a win.
Corrections
Spotted something wrong? Every fact has a "report an error" link, or use thereport form. We check reports against primary sources and fix what is wrong.
